Porta De Santiago (A Famosa Fortress)

Porta de Santiago is all that remains of this Portuguese fortress, but it was used to house a Christian city and is a poignant reminder of the Portuguese occupation of Melaka over 400 years ago.

A truly historical building in Melaka! But inside full of people selling stuff! Losing its appeal slowly.. A bit of sore eyes looking at the vendors spoiling the beauty of Melaka!

Find "ANNO 1670" inscribed on gate's arch. Dutch drove Portuguese out of Malacca & renovated the gate in 1670. “Anno” means “of the year” in Dutch . Source: Wikipedia

Interesting historical site of where the Dutch drove the Portugese out of Melaka in 1670. Sad state of a popular tourist destination, which should really have more informative signage.

Baby Diver

One of the trademark of Malacca. This old ruin front gate was built by Portugese Admiral Alfonso d’albuquerque in 1511. It was badly damaged during Dutch invasion in 1641. Instagrammable spot!
