言わずと知れた長崎・カステラ の名店。鎖国政策に向かってキリシタンの布教禁止を強化した徳川家光が三代将軍となった翌年1624年(寛永元年)の創業。屋号の「福砂屋」は当時中国・福州産の砂糖を船で長崎へ輸入し使用していたことから、福州の「福」砂糖の「砂」が由来となったと言われています。
改装中のためなのか、喫茶 はやっていないと言われました（2016年8月）
