酒店由从前饱受争议的华东电力大楼 (南京东路201号)连通上海市电力工业局 (南京东路181号) 改建而来。华东电力大楼是八十年代末落成的现代摩天楼之一，建筑造型比较前卫大胆，曾经面临着被整改的命运。但在建筑师们反复沟通后，Edition酒店业主鲁能拿出了最大的诚意：全部保留。其建筑外观会维持“三角窗”“斜屋顶”“棕墙砖”的基本样貌，一如从前。酒店由如恩设计研究室 (neri&hu) 操刀设计。
