Tantallon Castle

The last of the grand medieval castles, set high on a cliff edge and featuring a massive red sandstone curtain wall, Tantallon Castle was home to the Red Douglas dynasty.

Make sure you don't miss out all the little rooms and get right to the to for the best views out to the Bass Rock. There is a wee shop and two toilets , but bring a picnic because there is no cafe .

Tantallon Castle was the seat of the Douglas Earls of Angus, one of the most powerful baronial families in Scotland. Mary Queen of Scots stayed at Tantallon in 1566.
