Try to get as early as possible to avoid crowds, that can make a big difference in your visit. It can be visited in half an hour. Do not miss the restauran Oxtum on your way out!
One of the most interesting and largest Mayan archaeological sites. Better get there early to escape the horde of tourists arriving from Cancun . Hellish heat, but there is some shade. Bring much water
You'll sometimes see guys dressed as Mayan warriors near the entrance of the site. After the pyramid and main landmarks , check out the stone observatory in the back, about a 10m walk from the pyramid .
the moment you walk out of the surrounding forest and lay eyes on "El Castillo" of Chichen-Itza,the sense of wonder, awe, and majesty immediately impacts you. There is an energy that en captivates you
Incredible place with a lot to see. It is huge and so beautiful. It is pricey , but worth every cent. You can pay part of the entrance with a credit card and $80 pesos need to be in cash.
Apart from all the souvenir vendors and the fact you cant approach any of the monuments , it is a beautiful place. But really come early, because from 11am the whole site is packed with tourists .
I love history. If you want to learn about Mayan history and their civilazition you are at the true place.
Place was awesome, so full of good energy! I recommend to people go get their own water before going there cause drinks are expensive inside
Amazing place!! I am so happy I could manage to see it. I feel very lucky and special! I wish everyone can see it.
Bring a sun hat, water bottle, and a few small bills for souvenirs. I really enjoyed the third party tour I was on. We gained so much knowledge and had a better feel for the culture.
Iconic Yucantan site! Come early in the morning before package tour tourists come and vendors set up the shop.
Mayan history was amazing, when you walking all round the pyramid takes you back in times, clap your hands to hear the acoustic sound.

Look for "early access trips". You will have to leave Cancun around 6am, but the place will be just opening (and thus deserted) when you arrive around 8am. Also a great way to avoid the heat.
Go around closing time, nobody will be there, all The touristbusses and shuttlebusses will be gone. And if you are lucky, even the guards will guide you!
It is really really beautiful! Go after closing time so you're the only ones there!
Takes about 1.5-2 hours to see everything. Bring water and sunscreen and some snacks - things are expensive ! Salespeople willing to haggle.
Amazing and breathtaking! A definite must do if you're in the Yucatan Peninsula. Make sure you walk with lots of water and watch out for the souvenir vendors ...they're relentless!!
If it's a warm day, bring at least an extra bottle of water and bring a backpack. A family member experienced heat stroke while on the trails and passed out.
The daily light and sound show (officially says 8pm but started at 9pm on the day I went) exceeded my expectations: recommended. Hacienda Chichen and Mayaland are near side entrance.
One of the new "Seven Wonders of the World", a trip to the archaeological site of Chichen Itza is a "bucket list" item. Stay at the gorgeous Mayaland Resort and be sure to visit the Il Kil cenote.
El Castillo truly is awe-inspiring. It is well worth it to arrive at 8am when the gates open; by 11am it is hot & crowded . Currently entry is $232MX per person.
It is so worth it when you visit Mexico. Touring the temples and learning the history of Mexico by walking through the grounds of where they made their temples . Be prepared for a lot of walking.
So worth visiting! Just beautiful place to spend the day! Still need to go at night for the light show!
Chichen-Itzá was voted one of the New Seven Wonders Of The World. Sacrifices, rituals and, erm, ball games all took place here. Whisper at one end of the Great Court and you’ll be heard 500 feet away.
"Clap your hands in front of the 1100 yo Temple of Kukulcan,in the ancient Mayan city of Chichen Itza, and,to some researchers' ears, the pyramid answers in the voice of the sacred quetzal bird ."
Tome el tour ! Un señor gordito, bajito con sangre Maya es el mejor... Take the tour ! A short part Mayan guide is the best, look for him at the entrance!
If you like photography , go one hour before the area closes to the public. You will get the best shots and no annoying tourists flashing at everything crossing your pad. Dress light, it's HOT
Sundays are free visits for Mexican nationals with a valid ID. Good luck finding a spot to park on Sundays.
The ruins are incredible. Go right when they open. Hiking shoes/sneakers are not necessary but water, a hat & sunscreen are a good idea.
One of the largest Mayan cities , prominent between 750-1250 AD. Now one of Mexico's largest tourist destinations and a UNESCO World Heritage site, enscribed in 1988.
If you have a good tour guide , you'll learn everything they go over in the light and sound show. Although Chichen Itza looks beautiful lit up, the show itself is just "eh".
Try to go before 10. Nobody is here. Can be done in 2/3 hours. Enjoy
Well protected, its really nice to visit this places, you can rest also under trees and shop local things ????
Interesting to visit and buy souvenirs but u need to bargain for half price or less
Nice of you haven’t seen Maya culture. Very commercialised compared to counterparts in Belize and Guatemala
There is a lot of merchants around the park trying to sell you souvenirs. Don't accept the first offer. They ll offer you almost 50% discount later. Walk around and compare prices
If the ATM is out of service, don't trust the guy with the smartphone clip to give you money at a 10-15% rate. There's another ATM in Hotel Mayaland which you can access from within the site
If a part of a tour that gives 1 hour free, it's better to have a plan where to take photos. It's too large to check whole place in 1 hour. Beware of aggressive souvenir sellers
If you want to energize yourself the best place for that is Chichen Itzá but that only happens three days a year and this year are September 20, 21 and 22.
Get there early and get a guide !
You will need 2-3 hours to visit this site, on a slow pace. Try to be there around 9am to avoid tourist bus coming from Cancùn at noon.
