While you can see the main glacier (rapidly eroding) at the very end.... towards the end, look out for parts of the ice just off the path buried under the rock/dirt. You can get right up to some of it

One of the most epic experiences ever, definitely get the helicopter ride - or even better do the heli hike . I promise you'll not regret it

Absolutely beautiful. The glacier is in retreat at the moment but still awesome to see. The walk to the glacier is very pretty.

If you are in a decent shape, you can take the Robert Point's track that will take you over the glacier. The track has 4 swing bridges that are really fun.

Can't get as close to the glacier as you can at Fox Glacier, but the walk is much easier. We got treated to a gorgeous rainbow across the valley though :)

A very tiring walk for those who are not use to walking a lot.

The river emerging from Franz Josef Glacier is the Waiho River .

Bring along plastic bag to collect the free mud. You don't have to spend on spa :)
