Although it has what is considered to be one of the best and purest Romanesque facades in all of Umbria, the big triangular top (just a decorative wall) was added in Gothic times.
The cathedral church of Assisi, where Saints Francis and Clare would have been baptized. Museum entrance is adjacent.
In about 1181, Saint Francis was baptized here. In 1194, Saint Clare was baptized here. And also here but in 1212 she became his student.
