If planning on hiking the trails deeper within the park , make sure to wear appropriate shoes and take plenty of H2O. The Ridge trail (red) is tough, be prepared for a workout! Gorgeous view though!
If you are heading back to the lighthouse , plan to walk at least 30 mins each way! And bring $3 to go up the lighthouse ... plus a few extra for a snack to fuel your hike back!
Awesome location for camping ! There is a ton to do. Bring muck boots or old shoes and walk swampy areas to catch frogs and turtles . Enjoy!
The trails are awesome and well kept. Nice combination of sand and dirt (beach and forest ) to camp. Beware of the bitting flies!
If you take the trail to Big Sable Lighthouse , veering off to see the "Shipwreck" will be disappointing. However, veering off to walk up beach to Big Sable instead, won't let you down on nice day.
One of the nicest state parks I have ever been to. Great trails , a lighthouse and wonderful beach .
Good times indeed! Turkeys , and deer crossing frequently. To many things to do in the 4 days we stayed. Will be here for a week next year.
Make sure you check out the trails ! It is all incredibly well maintained. This park is gorgeous!
Wonderful family camping location. Miles of trails . Make your reservation for summer vacation EARLY!
Be sure to make reservations in advance! This is the number one state park destination in Michigan .
Deer seem pretty unconcerned about people, for the most part. Same with swans. If you're lucky you might see an heron.
One of the top 10 beaches in the country .
Watch out for ticks, especially in the middle of summer.
Amazing views and peaceful
Love the beach ...snack bar food is pretty bad!
Salmon run in the Fall (and not nearly as many people).
Ludington is beautiful!!!!
Open year round.
Best campground in Michigan !
The river has a great current in the spring.
Sites are ok. I think Pentwater (Mears State Park ) is better.
Beautiful lighthouse! We also got to see an amazing sunset! My favorite place! Been coming here for 24 years! - Linda
