One of the best zoos in UK. Compact enough to walk around but good space for animals. Great day out for all, not that you'll see everything in one day! Gold card is great value for multiple visits.
A super day out for all the family. The place is geared up for kids with a great play area and lots to keep them busy. Go off-seson, its much quieter then. A yearly ticket is value for money .
Lovely zoo and so much to do. The tigers and the train ride are a personal highlight! Soft play & all the food outlets yummy but also good areas to sit for packed lunches ! ???????????????????????????? xx
The best part was the train ride thru the park and the monkeys. We went with Abbeywood Nursury by coach on a hot summer day. Great time!
Nice day out with kids. Food obviously expensive . But the animals are kept in a good way. They really try and make their life at the zoo interesting and varied.
Great place to visit. Animals all look so well looked after and lovely to be able to see so much. Would recommend but leave plenty of time.
Wonderful zoo ! Always so much to see and constantly improving. Admissions money is mainly reinvested into the zoo . Definitely worth a visit.
Excellent zoo . Great for a family day out. Loads of play areas to keep kids entertained when they seen enough animals.
Agree with the other reviews about the food. today (19th Jan) it was really busy and only the main restaurant was open with sandwiches/paninis at a few cafés and they we running out by 12:30!Not good
The landscaping is great ... So good you can't see the animals amongst it!
A great zoo with so much to see.
Don't forget to arrive early to have enough time!
Great place but it's well worth investing in a gold card if you plan to go a few times a year otherwise works out very expensive ! Wouldn't recommend if you are not good with steep hills and long walks
Gold card is great... No que to get in and come as often as you like for a year!! Family fun!!!
Get a gold card , at just over the price of 2 visits they are worth every penny. You can also reclaim the price of your entrance fee. They change the way you use the zoo .
Love this place! Gold passes are well worth getting!! :)
.. Despite my criticism of the food, it is a very good zoo though!
Can't wait for new chimp section ;-)
It will take more than one day to get around. It is fantastic again and again
The gold card also gives you free access to Rotterdam Zoo in the Netherlands.
Get there early for the Elephant and Giraffe feeding.
Real good fun for the kids and adults also =)
Excellent food and service at The Patisserie
Such a beautiful zoo & so well looked after.
Free WiFi (search for FibreWiFi) in Kalahari Capers .
To expand on someone else's comment, I found a total lack of voice or data coverage on the Three network across the majority of the grounds.
Use your Gold Card to claim a free visit to the Christmas Grotto, that is if you are a child ...
Well worth a visit!
Had a fantastic day as always!
A gold card is a sound investment for Colchester Zoo. My favourites are the penguins.
Bring cash - only one cash machine in the ticket foyer and many of the food outlets don't accept cards . Cash machine also wouldn't work for me.
Wet but fun
3G on Three here!
The chimps eat their own poop!
No 3g here
Is it morally right to imprison innocent wild animals for our amusement? I don't think so.
Too many kids lol
Love it... Great adventure playground for kids and beautiful lake!! - Paul Tyrrell
Lovely views over the sea and estuary. Nice coffee at the info centre. - Philip Rimmington
Go to the Oyster Bar rather than the Company Shed, the food is just as good and the people are friendlier. - Lawrence Weber
Check feeding times... Can get very busy next door at the Giraffes but great fun! - Paul Tyrrell
awesome pizzas fresh from the deli for £4. also do a great breakfast in the cafe upstairs. - Nigel Clements
