Huge medieval fortress. Owned by Elizabeth I's favourite, Robert Dudley , who converted it into a great showpiece mansion to impress the Queen . The gardens have recently been restored.
On Bank Holiday's main car park gets full. So park your car in the town centre and get a free shuttle bus to the castle ! The Castle itself is nice, ruined after Civil War. Elizabethan garden was ok
Fantastic castle with Elizabethan history linked to the love affair between Queen Bess and her court favourite, Robert Dudley , earl of Leicester. Disappointingly, cafe closed between Nov and March

Fantastic, kind, and helpful staff. Sadly, the hotel is still using the excuse of covid not to clean your room during your stay. Windows will not open, unhealthy! - Diego Ruiz-Hernandez
Fantastic cocktails and nibbles (the cheese board is a must)in a relaxed, stylish setting. - Jessica Chivers
I love this pub for a quality family weekend lunch. Great draft ales on tap too. - Gloverboy
