The granite carvings allow you to see much more of the original detail than the sandstone because the material weathers so much less. Imagine what this place looked like when it was first built!

One of the most viewed carving in the temple , and has had the most rubbings done!

Dave Mc

The carvings become a lot easier to read at night when the lights make shadows on them.

At night this place really becomes awe-inspiring and truly a 'must see'

Dave Mc

Imagine the amount of work put into building this!

http://bit.ly/24NNl1K The massive columns, lofty statues , colossus, pylons, the peristyle court, the wall inscriptions – gives you the ancient grandiosity feel of the place.

Geoffroy Bablon

A mosque built on top of the ruins and the remains of an old Coptic church contribute to making this place feel truly timeless. Spot the engraving of Alexander the Great in the central temple .

Don’t miss visiting the Open-Air Museum where The well-preserved chapels include the White Chapel of Sesostris I, one of the oldest and most beautiful monuments in Karnak .

Have to say I agree the temple is much better at night with less people around making it wonderful & quite, I would say go at 8 - 8:30pm as hardly any one is around then :)

Stunning place. Highly recommended. Amazing during night. Nice walk from temple to Karnak via avenue.

Phat Buoy

Beautiful temple - can get very hot during a day visit. Watch out for corrupt police who expect tips for taking a photo - they are carrying guns so either pay or decline the photo politely

Enjoy a final feast for the eyes at Luxor museum (open daily; 9am-3pm, 5pm-9pm; £8). Treasures include a stunning gilded head of Hathor, the goddess of motherhood, and Tutankhamun’s funerary bed.

More quaint and quiet than the Egyptian Museum at Cairo, which can be a good thing :) They have a few mummies too, but some of the statues from the temples are in pristine shape.

Geoffroy Bablon

Check out the new exhibit with 24 recently excavated statues of gods and pharaohs, some of them life size. Many are in perfect condition - you'd never guess they were over three millennia old!

Phat Buoy

Quiet museum with welcome air conditioning ! Lots of interesting artefacts. Sign says no photos but some of the guards will turn a blind eye (not all expecting a tip either).

lesley hammam

Not only a good record of pharaonic age. It contains many structures from Greek, Roman, Coptic and Islamic ages. Condition of its structures is very good.

Don't go in the morning or afternoon, you can't tolerate the hot sun. However, after the sunset it's marvelous what they did with the lights.
