Great (mulled) cider . Atmospheric place. Sadly, the meat in the burger was little burnt. I would look for a differnt place to eat a burger , but the chicken and mushroom pie was tasty
The food is awesome!!! We tried the Chicken pie and Fish & Chips ! The atmosphere is really nice, traditional, inspiring and you will just understand why Tolkien and Lewis chose this place before!
There is a soul to the place, the black pig and apple burger is delicious. Try and get the front seats
Let’s be honest - we’re here bc it’s the Inklings pub , now owned by a chain. Service=quite slow, food=OK. The pork&cider pie quite nice - tho being starving by the time it showed probably helped it.
That is lovely place. Me and my boyfriend were visiting Oxford and we came across this pub on a rainy day to spend time. 👍🏽
Tolkien and C.S. Lewis might have hung out here in times of yore, but they would not set foot here today.
Love to sit with a drink and read in this pub . Such a special feeling to read the Hobbit here knowing the story just born at this place!
Tolkien's dead, and so is this place. What was once probably a special place, is now a generic pub . Have a pint in one of the front rooms if you want, to say you've been here, but forget the rest.
Great little pub with lots of history! Fair prices too, however can struggle to get a seat
Great pub with strong literary connections. Great real ale .
Excellent food, especially the chicken and the pies . Decent beer selection , a classic nicholson's pub
Good guest ales available. Often crowded , but booth setup allows a little more closeness and privacy
Love it here, regular rotating beers , very reasonable food (especially the Sunday roast )
Famous as the meeting place of CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien of Narnia and Lord of the rings fame
Good real ales here - the pies are recommended too. Look out for the alcove just past the bar , where there are photos and plaques commemorating C S Lewis and J R R Tolkien , who drank here often
More than £10 for 2 drinks and a pack of crisps? This is why I don't usually come here.
History aside, this place actually has good food!
Nice setting. Worth a visit for a bit of literary history
Apple and plum crumble was delicious
If it looks crowded at the bar then head to the back where there is lots of seating.
Legendary place, absolutely great enviroment
Plenty of Tolkien memorabilia about.
Amazing history.
The Bird and Baby. Plays off its literary history as an expensive , mediocre place on top many people's tick lists.
Perfect for a break, pint and fish&chips
Great beer ! Bring a copy of lord of the rings with you for the full experience!
Pretty standard English pub but worth going if you're a Tolkein or CS Lewis fan just to say that you've been.
Went for the name and the stigma with Lewis and Tolkein but tonight the bar was pretty bare but smelled of warm spiced wine so that was nice.
Very cozy pub , absolutely wonderful
Meet The Inklings !
We did not eat anything but the food looked great and there were many people queuing for eating
Enter the realms of Middle-earth and Narnia for a beer .
Average Pub food , most I think come here for the history more than anything...
The glazed chicken is awesome
**** "Legendary!"
Ales! Good ales ! Very gois ales !
Hands down, the Chicken and Leek Pie . The best pie that I have had in England.
Steak and Ale pie ... oh so good. Have eaten there every night this week thus far.
Lovely pub !
Ale , is there anything else?
Great beer and food
Fish and chips r great as are the lamb shanks
£8+ for a pint!
Tourist trap. Non independent, Tolkien would be mortified.
Sooooooo packed. :(
Great fish and chips
If you like cheese cutters, this is the place for you.
Try mulled cider when it's available: tastes like warm liquidised alcoholic apple crumble!
Inklings ! Nuff said.
Have some fun where J. R. R. Tolkien and C. S. Lewis used to discuss writing.
Pub lunch is great and the hotdogs are something special! It can get very busy at times especially in peak season. - India Yates
Sunny and spacious, as these old pubs go... and the beer selection is quite respectable. Will come back for sure. - Cintain 昆遊龍
Excellent selection of burgers in addition to regular pub fare. - Joshua Randall
One of the greatest museums in the world. Exhibitions almost always fantastic. Cafe a little crowded, but rooftop restaurant amazing with views all over city. - Richard Harris
Such a fun way to spend a day! Either with kids or adults- there’s something for everyone! Incredible array of historical exhibits in a beautiful setting. - Valerie S
